Spain's Costa Blanca is a popular destination for families wanting a fun-packed holiday in the sun and the area has some excellent attractions. One of the most popular family attractions on the Costa Blanca is Mundomar, an exotic animal park which is located on the outskirts of Benidorm. If you're staying in Alicante on a car hire holiday, Mundomar is a great place to go for a day-trip.

Spain Car Hire - Getting to Mundomar from Alicante

It will only take you about 40 minutes to drive from Alicante to Mundomar in your rental car. Head out of Alicante on the N-332/Av. De Denia and follow the signs for Valencia to get onto the A-70 partial toll road. Continue straight on along the AP-7 toll road and turn left in order to continue along this road. Leave the AP-7 at exit 65 and continue onto the Avinguda de la Comunitat Europea. Turn left to get onto the Av de la Comunidad Valenciana and turn right to continue along this road. Follow the signs to Mundomar.

Spain Car Hire - Mundomar Attractions

Mundomar has a number of shows that you can see. The main show is the 40 minute "Dancing with Dolphins" show, which is performed three times each day. Synchronised swimmers perform routines alongside the dolphins in order to create a beautifully balletic spectacle that the whole family will enjoy.

You can also see a sea lion show and a parrot show. Each of these shows lasts for 30 minutes and both shows are performed three times each day.

Take some time to explore the lagoon area, where you can see flamingos as well as other tropical birds, and don't miss Mundomar's giant turtles. You can also see parrots and owls in the park's aviary, or enjoy watching the antics of Mundomar's colony of penguins and its lemurs.

Another popular attraction in Mundomar is "The Galleon", a building designed to look like a ship. From inside the building, you can get a close-up, underwater view of the park's dolphins as they swim around and play in the dolphinarium.

Mundomar has also recently opened a new aquarium - the tanks in the aquarium can hold 40,000 litres of water and are home to more than 600 fish.

If you have young children, they'll love Mundomar's Children's Park, which has slides, swings, bridges and climbing walls. There are also restaurants and cafes in the park where you can stop for something to eat and drink, as well as kiosks where you can buy refreshments and gift shops.

You should plan to spend about four hours in Mundomar and make sure that you check the times of the shows when you get there so that you can ensure that you see them all. Mundomar is usually open from the end of April until the end of December, but check the opening hours with the park before embarking upon your journey.
